Understanding the risks of gambling
Gambling is entertainment you pay for, not a way to earn or to fix money problems. Most people keep it within sensible limits, but not everyone manages to.
Spending more than planned, chasing losses, sessions that run far past the time you meant to stop: each of these is a reason to pause and look honestly at your habits.
Our approach to safer play
We’d rather have a player who stays in control than one who deposits more. The account tools let you set personal restrictions, take a short break or step away from gambling for a longer stretch, and our support team helps with any of it, including closing the door completely.
Simple rules for responsible gambling
None of these rules is complicated. Together they do most of the work:
- Pick your number before you log in. Not during, not after a win, before. That’s the budget, and it doesn’t move.
- If the money has a job already, rent, bills, groceries, it never goes near the cashier.
- Sessions need an end time. Set one, keep it, and get up from the screen once in a while even before it comes.
- Money lost is money spent. Doubling stakes to drag it back is the oldest trap in gambling, and it still works every time.
- Had a few drinks? Then today isn’t the day to bet. Same with anything else that muddies your thinking.
- Mood down, wallet thinner, work slipping, people around you worried. Any one of these means it’s time to stop, not to play through it.
Limits and temporary breaks
Deposit and betting limits live in the account settings, and each one adjusts separately. Tightening a limit works at once; loosening one waits out a cooling period first. A transaction that goes over an active limit simply doesn’t go through.
Need a pause rather than a limit? A time-out blocks deposits and play for the period you choose, while the money already on the balance stays where it is. The conditions for ending the break are shown when you request it.
Self-exclusion
When a short break isn’t enough, ask support for self-exclusion. It’s built for players who want out for a long time, which is exactly why a confirmed exclusion can’t just be cancelled early. Promotional messages go silent for the whole term.
One thing not to do: open a fresh account to get around an active exclusion. Duplicates registered during a restriction get closed once spotted.
Protection of minors
18 or over, no exceptions, and identity checks exist partly to prove it. If children or teenagers use the same phone, tablet or computer, keep your login to yourself and consider parental controls or filtering software.
Independent help and support
When gambling starts causing financial, emotional or personal damage, there are people to talk to who have nothing to do with our platform:
- GamCare runs the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, free, confidential and open 24 hours a day for anyone affected by gambling harm.
- Gambling Therapy works online: practical advice, emotional support and live help, at no cost, for people whose gambling has become a problem.
If play has stopped feeling like entertainment, that’s the signal. Talk to someone you trust or reach out to one of the services above; the earlier you do, the easier it is to get spending, time and the habit itself back under control.
